Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of materialism, financial knowledge, and savings orientation on financial stress. The sample that can be processed in the study is 300 respondents with the criteriafamily financial managers who are located in Surabaya City, Gresik Regency, Sidoarjo Regency and Mojokerto Regency, have a family income of at least IDR 4,000,000. Data collection techniques in this study using a questionnaire. The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling method. The analytical technique used is the partial least square (SEM PLS) structural equation model. The results showed that materialism had a significant positive effect on financial stress; financial knowledge has no significant negative effect on financial stress; savings orientation has a significant negative effect on financial stress. This study recommends family financial managers to reduce materialism and increase savings orientation in order to reduce financial stress.
