Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of financial literacy and HR competency on the performance of SMEs in East Java. The population in this study is based on metropolitan clusters which are divided into 4 regions, namely Surabaya, Gresik, Sidoarjo, and Mojokerto.The independent variables namely financial literacy consist of 3 dimensions including debt literacy, budgeting literacy and book keeping literacy and HR competency variables are measured using indicators of managerial competence, practical competence, and procedural competencies. While the dependent variable is performance that is measured using indicators that focus on increasing profit, turnover and competitors. Data is collected using questionnaires. The sample of this study was 177 SME respondents in East Java. The technique used in this study uses Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of the analysis show that financial literacy and HR competencies affect the performance of SMEs in East Java. This means that the higher the level of financial literacy and HR competencies, the business owners can manage their business performance properly.
