Abstract
Inter-company competition getting tougher in various sectors in the current era of globalization. This condition requires every company to take the right decision for his company, not just to simply survive, but also can develop the company. Merger and acquisition strategy is one alternative to the expansion of the business. The purpose of this research were (1) to know the difference between the stock price of a one-year period before and one year period after the acquisition and merger and (2) to know the difference between trading volume activity of a one-year period before and one year period after the acquisition and merger. Sample of this research is 20 public companies listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange has made acquisitions and mergers in 2005 – 2009. This research use a paired sample t-test where the first hypothesis test result showed that there was significant differences of stock price between a year period before and a year period after the acquisition and merger. The second hypothesis test result showed that there was no significant differences of trading volume activity between a year period before and a year period after the acquisition and merger.
