Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of financial literacy, financial inclusion, and income on the saving behavior of lecturers and staff at Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ), Dili, Timor-Leste. The population consisted of all lecturers and staff of Universidade da Paz, Dili, Timor-Leste, with a sample of 213 respondents selected using proportional random sampling. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results show that financial literacy does not have a significant effect on saving behavior. In contrast, financial inclusion has a positive and significant effect on saving behavior, indicating that easier access to and utilization of formal financial services encourage individuals to save more consistently. Income also has a positive and significant effect on saving behavior, meaning that higher income increases individuals’ capacity to allocate a portion of their earnings to savings. The research model explains 51.6% of the variation in saving behavior. These findings indicate that access to financial services and economic capacity play a more important role in shaping saving behavior than financial knowledge alone.
