Abstract

This study aims to descriptively examine the effect of job insecurity on innovative work behavior and adaptive performance mediated by work engagement among Generation Z employees in Surabaya. The population of this study was Generation Z employees in Surabaya. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to Generation Z employees working in the corporate sector, MSMEs, and start-ups in Surabaya using purposive sampling with a Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. There were 94 respondents with a minimum of 6 months of work experience. The results of the study show that work engagement and innovative work behavior have a significant positive effect on the adaptive performance of Generation Z employees in Surabaya. Based on the coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.506, it shows that 50.6% of the adaptive performance variable can be explained by job insecurity, work engagement, and innovative work behavior, while the remaining 49.4% is explained by other variables outside this research model. Keywords: job insecurity, work engagment, innovative work behavior, adaptive performanc, Generasi Z
