Abstract

Changes in the workplace due to industrial disruption demand a high degree of adaptation. However, Generation Z is susceptible to work stress, making it difficult for Generation Z in East Java to adapt. The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze the influence of work stress on adaptive performance, mediated by work engagement and innovative work behavior in Generation Z employees in East Java. This study employed a quantitative approach, employing a survey method through questionnaires distributed to Generation Z employees in East Java. Respondents in this study were 133 Generation Z employees in East Java. The analysis technique used in this study was Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with the assistance of SmartPLS software. The results of this study indicate that work stress has a significant negative effect on work engagement and innovative work behavior but does not directly affect adaptive performance. Work engagement and innovative work behavior have been shown to have a significant positive effect on adaptive performance and mediate the relationship between work stress and adaptive performance. Consequently, companies need to strengthen work engagement and innovative work behavior to enable Generation Z employees to adapt optimally. Keywords: Work Stress, Adaptive Performance, Work Engagement, Innovative Work Behavior, Generation Z Employees, East Java
