Abstract
Electricity is a vital energy resource in various sectors and daily needs. The average electricity consumption per capita in Indonesia reached 1,285 kWh in 2023. Most of Indonesia's electricity demand is supplied by the state owned company, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). Effective and efficient electricity usage is crucial in daily life, especially in preventing energy waste. However, manually monitoring power consumption is often inaccurate and time-consuming. This study aims to design an Internet of things (IoT)-based electricity monitoring system using the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol to monitor power consumption in real time. The system utilizes the PZEM-004T sensor to measure voltage, current, and power, which are then processed by the NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller. The generated data is transmitted via the MQTT protocol to a cloud-based monitoring platform and displayed in graphical visualizations. With this system, users can monitor electricity usage more efficiently from a remote location. The designed system uses the PZEM-004T sensor to measure electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and power, which are processed by the NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller. The data is sent to an MQTT-based cloud platform for real time graphical visualization. This system is also equipped with a Telegram Bot for excessive power consumption notifications. Test results show that the system has high accuracy, with an average current measurement accuracy of 94.07% and a voltagemeasurement accuracy of 99.87%. The system also includes a real time notification feature via the Telegram Bot to provide information about excessive power usage. These tests indicate that the system can provide accurate and efficient real time information, making it easier for users to monitor and manage electricity consumption
