Abstract
This research aims to obtain the differences of empirical evidence on gender in accounting and an understanding of emotional intelligence. There some assumption those students who have a high emotional intelligence will have a positive impact on students, so it has an important role to facilitate students in understanding the accounting which will come. And also some presumption says that gender has a close relationship with the level of understanding of accounting. This study is an empirical study with convenience sampling technique in data collection. The populations of this study were students at the Department of Accounting in Perbanas Surabaya who have taken the introductory accounting courses 1, introductory accounting 2, financial accounting 1, financial accounting 2, advanced financial accounting 1, and auditing. Samples used for this study amounted to 130 students. Hypothesis testing is using independent-sample t test. The test results showed that the H0 hypothesis cannot be denied or have the same variance. So it can be concluded that on average the understanding of accounting significantly is same between male and female respondents, or in other words there is no difference of understanding of accounting between male and female students.
