Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of company size, profitability, liquidity and free cash flow on debt policy in manufacturing companies from 2016 to 2019. The population of this study is all manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), totaling 344 companies. The number of samples in this study is 236 data that can be obtained from 59 companies listed on the IDX for four years (2016-2019). Using secondary data with purposive sampling method and processed using SPSS version 24. The results of this study indicate a positive variable influence company size on debt policy. This means that the larger the size of the company, the higher the number of operational costs, so that the company needs debt to help finance the company's operational activities. There is no influence of the profitability variable on debt policy, this is because many companies in the study period did not owe an increase in profitability. There is a negative effect of liquidity variables on debt policy. This means that the higher the level of company liquidity indicates that the company is able to pay off debt quickly and on time, so that debt will decrease when the company is high. There is no influence of the free cash flow variable on debt, this is because in periods of higher cash flow, it shows that the company is getting richer so it does not need debt. Keywords : Company Size, Profitability, Liquidity, Free Cash Flow
