Abstract

The capital structure is a comparison between the company's long-term funding as shown by the comparison of long-term debt to equity. The aim of this researcher is to examine the effect of sales growth, firm size, asset structure, profitability, liquidity on the capital structure. The sample of this researcher is a manufacturing sector company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), while the sample used consisted of 52 companies and selected by purposive sampling. Data analysis techniques used in this researcher SPSS 16. In the partial test (t test) with a sinificance level of 0,5 indicates that; (1) sales growth does not affect the capital structure, meaning that the high and low capital structure due to high sales growth will generate large profits so that companies use internal funding more than external funding; (2) the size of the company has a significant negative effect on capital structure, meaning that the larger the size of the company, the smaller the proportion of debt used by the company so that large companies prefer to use their own capital rather than debt; (3) the asset structure does not affect the capital structure, because fixed assets in manufacturing companies can be closed by using their own capital which makes a portion of the funds for these assets not to be met through debt; (4) profitability does not affect the capital structure, because the company's profit is not utilized by management to make debt or make internal funding for the profits obtained by the company; (5) liquidity has a significant negative effect on capital structure, meaning that the level of liquidity of a company affects the size of the capital structure of the company. Keywords: sales growth, firm size, asset structure, profitability, liquidity and capital structure.
