Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of financial literacy and financial planning on the performance of SMEs in East Java. Financial literacy has 3 dimensions, first, book keeping is measured by preparing financial statements, calculating profit levels, managing cash books and for competitive advantage, and payroll management. Second, debt literacy is measured by calculating debt and risk interest, estimating installment payments, and comparing debt terms and conditions. Third, budgeting literacy is measured by preparing a budget, involving employees in budgeting, budgeting based on previous period performance, and budgeting at the end of each period. Financial planning is also measured by financial planning for the short term, medium term, and long term, planning SME income and SME expenditure, while performance is also measured by increasing profits, turnover and customers. The population of this study is SMEs in metropolitan clusters namely Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Gresik, and Mojokerto. The sampling technique used cluster sampling so that there were 177 SME respondents in East Java. Data was collected using a questionnaire. This technique uses Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results of the analysis show that SME financial literacy rates are high, SME financial planning is good and SME performance is high Financial literacy and Financial Planning affect the performance of SMEs in East Java.
