Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of financial literacy, investment motivation, information technology, and minimum capital on investment decisions among Generation Z in East Surabaya. The research background is the rapidly increasing number of young investors in Indonesia, especially Generation Z, driven by the development of digital investment applications, massive financial literacy campaigns, and social media exposure. However, their investment decisions tend to be short-term oriented and vulnerable to Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). This study employs a quantitative approach with a survey method. Data were collected through online questionnaires distributed via Google Form to 100 Generation Z respondents in East Surabaya who are active university students, have investment experience, and use digital investment applications. The sampling technique used was snowball sampling. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS 4 software. The results show that financial literacy has a positive and significant effect on investment decisions; investment motivation has no significant effect; information technology has a positive and significant effect; and minimum capital has a positive and significant effect. The four independent variables simultaneously explain 62.6% of the variance in investment decisions, while 37.4% is explained by other variables outside the model. These findings indicate that financial literacy, information technology, and minimum capital are key determinants in shaping Generation Z’s investment decisions, whereas investment motivation alone is insufficient without strong perceived behavioral control. This research provides a theoretical contribution by extending the Theory of Planned Behavior in the context of digital investment behavior and offers practical implications for regulators, higher education institutions, and investment platforms. Keywords: Financial Literacy, Investment Motivation, Information Technology, Minimum Capital, Investment Decisions, Generation Z, PLS-SEM
