Abstract

The concept of routing in computer networks is abstract, which often makes it difficult for students to understand when delivered through conventional learning media with limited visualization. Observations of students from the Informatics and Information Systems Study Program, Class of 2022, who had completed the Computer Networks course, indicate that students’ level of understanding falls within the moderate category, with an overall comprehension rate of 72%, static routing comprehension of 65.56%, and dynamic routing comprehension of 61.56%. In addition, the level of need for supporting learning media reached 71.11%. These findings indicate the need for the development of innovative learning media capable of visualizing routing mechanisms in a more concrete manner. This study aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media for the simulation of static and dynamic routing using Unity and the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) method. The feasibility of the developed media was evaluated through validation by media experts and subject matter experts, while learning effectiveness was assessed by comparing pretest and posttest results. The results show that the AR-based learning media is categorized as very feasible, with an average validation score of 88.66%. Furthermore, the Paired Sample T-Test results indicate a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, demonstrating a statistically significant difference between students’ pretest and posttest scores after using the AR-based learning media. Consequently, the AR-based learning media contributes significantly to improving students’ understanding of static and dynamic routing concepts. Keywords: Augmented Reality, Learning Media, Computer Networks, routing, MDLC.
