Abstract

Return on assets (ROA) comparing a company's income from its total assets is a ratio that measures the company's financial performance (Maith, 2013; Puspitasari et al., 2021). Company performance can be influenced by resource capital and institutional capital (Nair & Bhattacharyya, 2019). Resource Capital is proxied by R&D intensity and Advertising intensity (Nair & Bhattacharyya, 2019) Institutional Capital is proxied by CSR intensity as voluntary spending and CSR implementa-tion as mandatory or mandatory spending (Ahyani & Puspitasai, 2019; Nair & Bhattacharyya, 2019). This study aims to examine whether the implementation of CSR, CSR intensity, R&D intensity and Ad-vertising intensity affect the company's profitability, with age and company size control variables. The study was conducted with a quantitative approach to manufacturing companies on the Indo-nesia Stock Exchange for the 2016-2020 period. A sample of 16 companies, taken by purposive sampling technique. Testing is done with multiple linear regression analysis and hypothesis test-ing. Based on the results of simultaneous testing, CSR intensity, CSR implementation, R&D inten-sity, Advertising intensity, company size and age have a significant effect on profitability with a contribution of 26.7%. Based on the partial test, the intensity of R&D has a significant positive ef-fect on profitability and the greater the effect on small companies. The variables of CSR intensity, CSR implementation, advertising intensity and company age partially have no significant effect on profitability.
