Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the direct and indirect effect of managerial ownership, leverage, and free cash flow effects on dividend policy through profitability. This research was conducted on banking sector companies in the period 2014 to 2017 listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange with a population of 43 companies. The sampling technique is done by purposive sampling, so that the number of samples used is known as 13 companies in the banking sector. The data analysis technique used is path analysis. The results explain that directly managerial ownership, leverage, and free cash flow has a significant negative effect on the company's dividend policy. These results explain that an increase in the number of company stock ownership by managerial, an increase in the amount of company debt, and an increase in the value of free cash flow can affect the company's policy to reduce the amount of share dividends distributed to the company's shareholders. The results also showed that indirectly managerial ownership, leverage, and free cash flow did not significantly influence dividend policy through profitability. These results prove that profitability cannot be an intervening variable on the effect of managerial ownership, leverage, and free cash flow on dividend policies in banking companies during 2014 to 2017. Keywords: Dividend Policy, Managerial Ownership, Leverage, and Free Cash Flow.
