Abstract
Materialism behavior is a behavior to achieve happines through the possession of certain objects. This behavior is formed because of their lack of self-esteem, financial knowledge, and influence of parents in educating children to manange their finances. This study aimed to analyze wheter there are differences between students of economic and non economic materialism behavior, the second objective to test whether there are differences between students of the beginning semester and the final semester in materialism behavior, as well as to test whether self-esteem, financial knowledge, and parental authority partial effect on the behavior of these materialistis.questionnaries have been distributed to 120 respondents in college students at 10 universitiesin Surabaya, East Java, but the data can be processed back and is as much as 105 respondents. After it is processed by using SPSS 16.0. researcher get the result that there are no differences in the behavior of the students majoring materialistic economic and non-economic, there are no differences in behavior between students materialistic beginning of the semster and final semester, as well as self-esteem, financial knowledge and parental authority does not significantly influence the formation of materialism behavior.
