Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of work overload and work–life balance on the performance of Generation Z employees in Surabaya. The sample of this study consisted of Generation Z employees in Surabaya who met the criterion of having a minimum tenure of one year, resulting in a total sample of 107 respondents. This research employed a quantitative method using primary data collected through questionnaires distributed via Google Forms. The collected data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach. The results of the study indicate that work overload has a positive and significant effect on employee performance among Generation Z employees in Surabaya. Work–life balance also has a positive and significant effect on employee performance among Generation Z employees in Surabaya. This study provides a significant contribution to companies, particularly in the human resources function, as it clearly demonstrates how balancing job demands and employee well- being can simultaneously contribute positively to employee performance.
