Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) on the performance of Islamic banks and to assess whether financial slack acts as a moderating variable in the relationship. This study uses a quantitative approach with a panel data regression analysis method on 10 Islamic Commercial Banks during the period 2020–2023. The results of the study indicate that Good Corporate Governance (GCG) has a negative and insignificant effect on the financial performance of Islamic banks as measured by Return on Assets (ROA). In addition, financial slack does not provide a significant moderating effect on the relationship between GCG and Islamic bank performance. These results indicate that during the study period, financial slack functioned more as a liquidity reserve than as a strategic tool to improve bank performance. This study has an impact on Islamic bank managers to focus more on optimizing the implementation of GCG which is not only based on administrative compliance, but also has a real impact on bank profitability. Keywords: Good corporate governance, financial slack, islamic bank performance
