Abstract

Financial distress is a serious condition characterized by mild financial difficulties such as serious financial difficulties or debt that is greater than the assets owned. Financial distress occurs when the company's condition worsens, causing a heavy financial burden and causing the company to be unable to pay its obligations to creditors. because this financial distress is the stage of decreasing the company's financial condition before the bankruptcy. This study aims to determine the effect of public ownership, foreign ownership, managerial agency costs, working capital and firm size on financial distress conditions. The population used in this study is a building construction company listed on the Indonesian stock exchange from 2016 to 2020. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis was processed using IBM SPSS 25 software. The results of this study indicate that the variables of public ownership and foreign ownership affect financial distress conditions, while managerial agency costs, working capital and firm size have no effect on financial distress conditions.
