Abstract

Prediction of financial distress plays very vibrant role for survival and long-term growth of firms in the competitive global environment. In this era of globalization, industrial growth in the consumer cyclical sector is directly proportional to economic growth because the products are cyclical or secondary goods. Therefore, the researcher wants to analyze the financial distress of consumer cyclicals companies in order to avoid bankruptcy. This study aims to determine whether financial performance controlled by independent commissioners is able to predict the probability of financial distress. Financial performance indicators use profitability ratios, liquidity ratios and activity ratios. The population in this study are consumer cyclicals companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange 2013-2020. Based on purposive sampling method, obtained 61 samples of companies, while statistical analysis used SPSS logistic regression software with a significance level of 5%. As a result, the profitability ratio (ROA) has a significant negative value, the liquidity ratio (CR) and activity ratio (TATO) has an insignificant negative value, and independent commissioners have an insignificant positive value for predicting financial distress.
