Abstract

The general objective of this research was to determine how new product development to increase sales volume of religion book in Surabaya. Unit analysis of this research includes distributor and new product development to increased sales volume of religion book in Surabaya and surrounding areas. The location used to be in the city of Surabaya. This research was conducted by distributing questionnaires to the distribution channels and conducted interview with informant (either with the owner or the employee). This research covered by praresearch and phase of the research. This research using primary data of interview and observation of the product distribution of religion books obtained through observation, interview, administration of questionnaires, and documentation. The analyzing method used was coding and grouping. The result of this research showed that questionnaires given to distributor’s answer support all phases of new product development. All informant also use perform business analysis to determine market trend, pay attention to new product design of religion book, pay attention to the paper quality, and other factors. The result of interview showed that new product development of religion book must pay attention to the color of book because consumers will look at the color of the book so it must be combined with good color of cover. The price of book it must be considered but it isn’t main factor of consumer to buy a book. During the content of book is interesting, consumer will pay how much it cost because they are buy the content not the price. Limitation of this research are time factor of informant, the educational background of informant, returns system that given to distributor, provision of payment due to the distributor, and discount that given to the distributor.
