Abstract
Low competence in English for the students of Non English native speakers have been crucial so far for the teachers in language teaching in Indonesia. This study attempts to explore students ‘motivation in learning English at STIE Perbanas Surabaya. This is a qualitative research, a case study. The method used in this study is descriptive one. This method is chosen to describe the qualitative data that taken. Besides, mixed method both qualitative and quantitative, also applied in this study. It is based on any blend of qualitative and quantitative proof. The instruments to get the data are questionnaire and interview. In getting the data , first, the students are given questionnaire about their motivation in learning English at STIE Perbanas Surabaya. Then, to get a better data, interview is conducted. Some of the students are being interviewed deeper related to their motivation in learning English at STIE Perbanas Surabaya. The data of this study shows that 78% of the students are studying English because it’s a compulsory subject in the university. The next result is 59% of the students do not agree that learning English is easy. In conclusion, there are intrinsic and extrinsic on students motivation in learning English at STIE Perbanas Surabaya, whereas extrinsic motivation on students plays a significant role on their language learning suceed.
