Abstract
Along with the rapid development of accounting at this time not only company and business are using accounting as a means of managing company finances but also housewives have used accounting as a means of managing household finances. Researcher conducts research about application of accounting in the household. This research aims to determine the important role of accounting in the household and find out how housewives in applying accounting to their households regarding planning, recording and decision making. This research uses qualitative methods and for data collection uses observation, interview and documentation study techniques. This research was conducted in Pamolokan Vilage, District City, Sumenep Regency with six informants. The result of this research indicate that a housewife plans her finance with a period of time per month, and records every financial transaction, and makes decision with consideration according to their needs. The important role of accounting and the benefits of applying accounting in household life is useful to stabilize household finances, control expenditure costs and prioritize primary needs and prevent families from debt activity.
