Abstract

This study addresses the growing concern regarding stock price volatility in the coal sub-sector amid increasing investor attention to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and corporate dividend policies. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of ESG performance and dividend policy on stock price volatility, as well as the moderating role of women on board in strengthening these relationships. This research employs a quantitative approach using secondary data from coal sub-sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2021–2024 period. The analysis is conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that ESG performance and dividend policy significantly influence stock price volatility, while women on board moderates the relationship between ESG performance and stock price volatility but does not moderate the relationship between dividend policy and stock price volatility. These results suggest that gender-diverse boards contribute to enhanced corporate governance and sustainability practices, thereby stabilizing market perceptions. The study provides practical implications for corporate managers, investors, and policymakers to strengthen sustainability strategies, improve dividend decisions, and promote gender diversity in corporate governance to enhance market stability and investor confidence.
