Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence credit risk, operational costs, and liquidity on profitability in rural banks (BPR) in East Java. Furthermore, this study also examines the indirect effect of credit risk and operational costs on profitability through liquidity. The design of this study is quantitative, while the type of research is causal research. The scope of the study period is 2019-2023. Credit risk variables are measured using NPL, operational costs are measured using BOPO, liquidity is measured using LDR, and profitability is measured using ROA. The research sample consisted of 16 companies and the sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The type of data used is secondary data sourced from BPR financial reports. Data analysis techniques used Eviews and the Sobel Test. The results of the study indicate that credit risk has no direct effect on profitability and liquidity, operational costs have a significant negative effect on profitability, operational costs have no effect on liquidity, and liquidity have a significant positive effect on profitability. The results of the indirect effect hypothesis test indicate that credit risk and operational costs have no effect on profitability through liquidity.
