Abstract

Islamic microfinance plays a crucial role in supporting small and micro enterprises that are not fully served by formal financial institutions, applying the principles of profit-sharing, flexibility, and Sharia compliance. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic microfinance at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) KCP Surabaya HR Muhammad 1 using a qualitative approach. The findings reveal that the microfinance ecosystem involves the bank, MSME customers, regulators, and business communities, with the application of Sharia contracts such as murabahah and musharakah. The main products offered include Islamic People’s Business Credit (KUR Syariah) and BSI Usaha Mikro (BUM) Non-KUR with a financing plafond of up to IDR 500 million, supported by digital innovations such as the i-Kurma application and BSI Agent program. The financing has a positive impact on MSMEs, including revenue growth and business expansion, although challenges remain, such as low public literacy on Islamic finance and administrative barriers in digitalization. The study recommends that BSI strengthen Islamic financial literacy, optimize digital services, and enhance risk management to improve the effectiveness of Islamic microfinance.
